lessons aimed at total newcomers to the sport, an introductory lesson, with safety briefing, prone surfing section, then paddle and standing sections with your instructor. The classic A.B.C. lesson. Waist/chest depth of water.
- Improver, level one
Next session after your beginner lesson, working on standing, getting longer rides, building up to turns. Waist to chest depth, deeper white-water.
- Improver, level two

- Improver, level three
Working on riding waves further beyond the white-water zone. This will depend on conditions. Paddle out skills refining. Other skills are turning readily across the wave, progressing to quicker turns, trying out more advanced equipment when ready. White water when big, out-back when smaller.
- Improver, level four
More advanced boards further out-back, turning on the green-face wave showing good paddle out skills. Starting to develop strong board control. Looking to paddle out most of the time except when big, also riding on reformed waves closer on the inside.
- Intermediate level
From Improver level four upwards. The student has their own board or is proficient/ working on hard boards. Spending time further out-back. Introduction of some advanced theory, fitness, awareness and knowledge. The use of video can be used now to help illustrate performance.
- Advanced level
